Order: Cottiformes, Family: Cyclopteridae, Genus: Eumicrotremus
Fuusen-Uo is a fish of the Cyclopteridae family and lives in northern water. In Japan, they live in the Sea of Okhotsk and the northern water of Soya. The name comes from its round shape which looks like a balloon.
The Fuusen-Uo lives at a depth of 90-150 meters. It firmly attaches to bedrocks with its adhesive discs, which evolved from the fish's pelvic fins.
The Fuusen-Uo changes its body color to match its surroundings in order to protect itself from enemies. During its youth, its body color changes beautifully from a milky white to a beautiful orange.
